CHIT is a musical experience conceived of as a vehicle for the exploration of the self, and as an aid for connecting with the One. Dense guitars imbued with the serene, blended with ambient textures and crushing drums are utilized to bring attention to the intrinsic ecstasy of existence itself. In this meditative atmosphere one finds ease in detaching from the world and is compelled to perceive the true self, the seer within. To embrace the eternal bliss of experiencing.
CHIT was formed in the fall of 2024 by guitarist Ethan Bailey-Gould after the dissolution of the short lived Baltimore based metal band known as Vociferations, in which he was a founding member. Unused material initially composed by Ethan for Vociferations serves as the basis for CHIT’s repertoire and is reworked to create a new, distinct and spiritual musical experience. The name CHIT (consciousness in Sanskrit), as well as the themes explored through this project are heavily inspired by eastern philosophy and the music’s creation itself, in concept, is meant to function as a meditative practice.
The creation of CHIT coincided with Ethan’s own growing interest in philosophy and spirituality. It was the ideas presented in Advaita Vedanta and Kashmiri Shaivism that were especially impactful and led to a questioning of many long held beliefs. After spending years as a self described atheist Ethan suddenly found himself revisiting questions about god and the nature of existence. These questions had obtained new significance. Starting out as a trivial curiosity about the practice of meditation and developing into a quest for enlightenment and an understanding of the true self. For Ethan, CHIT serves as a tool for realization as well as an avenue for artistic expression.
